Emily “Shoteen” Allerton is a recent graduate of University of Arizona and serves as a Research Assistant. Emily aspires to become an integrative psychiatrist in her family’s homelands of Southeast Alaska.

“I desire to help empower our citizens to find healing sources through traditional medicine rather than relying solely on drugs and a western healthcare model that overlooks our heritage, community, and healing pathways.”

Emily’s community health project with We Are Healers is to create a scholarly paper discussing how tribal medical clinics could potentially implement a nutrition model based on local, traditional foods in their in-care systems. Her model would be based on the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium which works with local hunters to provide Alaskan Native food to their patients.
