Jasmine is a second-year medical student at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. As a future doctor, she aims to mentor the next wave of Native health leaders and actively dismantle structural inequities to health. She has participated with the Northwest Native American Center of Excellence, the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board, and the Wy’east Post Baccalaureate Scholar programs.

“I was first immersed into the world of medicine at an early age after my brother was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. This experience quickly taught me the importance of advocacy and community. My desire to apply to medical school was strengthened by the visibility of other Native doctors and mentorship I received.”

Jasmine’s community health project is to help relocate and maintain a traditional foods garden at the Oregon Health & Science University campus. The garden will serve as a gathering place for all while promoting First Foods practices.
